Cockroaches
Cockroaches have got to be one of the grossest pests in Alabama. Though they don’t sting or bite like some of the other common household pests, something about their smooth shiny brown bodies, large size, and spindly hairy antennae is enough to send a shiver down anyone’s spine.
Most commonly found indoors in Alabama are the German Cockroach, and outdoors are the American cockroach. They look fairly similar, though the German variety has two black lines running down its back and on average is smaller than the American Cockroach.
Cockroaches can find their way into your home or business in a variety of ways. Most often they come in through loose doorframes, open windows, or other small open cracks in the exterior of your home. Even if you think your home or business is totally secure, you may still fall prey to cockroach infestation. Cockroach eggs can be brought in through any variety of outside objects, from grocery bags to packages to shoes. These eggs hatch after a couple of weeks and can give rise to a full-blown infestation.
The risks of a cockroach infestation are many. Cockroaches have their gross reputation for a reason. These pests, as with most pests, are carriers of bacteria and disease, which can infect you if they happen to find their way into your pantry. They also leave small dots of feces behind, and can even cause asthmatic individuals to suffer from worse or more frequent attacks.
Cockroaches are especially drawn to water so if you have leaky pipes or faucets you may be at an increased risk for a cockroach infestation. Though cockroaches have a reputation for being indestructible, at Alabama Preferred Pest Control we use our years of expertise to develop the best plan to keep your home cockroach free.
